Ambeth Ocampo on the the canvassing at congress

it's nice to note that we've gone a long way from the sort of things our heroes found necessary, like aiming a pistol at some weasel who'll soon be forgotten by the rest of the filipino people. taking a look back at such instances in our history ought to awaken us to the fact that we're slowly getting better at doing this democracy thing. yes, i know, bonifacio's style would've settled the issue expeditiously and the canvassing would've been over by now, but then that would also be like shooting ourselves on the foot. the system is working, although not as well as one would hope it to be, but nevertheless, it is working and for that we should be glad.
