New Information Indicates Attacks in U.S.

the terrorists have smelled blood, and they want more. they knew they managed to score victory in madrid, for their efforts have led to the fall of the spanish conservative government, which strongly supported the US's war on terror. in its place now is a left-wing party, which not only opposed the war in iraq, but also intends to appease the terrorists by withdrawing spanish troops from iraq.

now they want the same for america. the mood about the whole war on terrorism has changed especially with the controversies on the intelligence used for the iraq war and the prisoner abuse scandal. american thought has shifted from blaming the terrorists, to blaming the government.

but 2004 offers the terrorists a real opportunity for them to create significant trouble by attempting to duplicate the effect their bombings had on the spanish people on the americans. i won't be surprised if they launch their attack on the eve of the US elections. i mean, the parallels are so uncanny. they have a right wing party in power, then there's a challenger whose main issue against the ruling party is their "unsuccessful" and "ill-strategized" execution on the war on terror. if terrorists attempts were successful, then there could be a backlash on the bush administration since the american electorate would perceive this as utter failure of the bush government to prevent such terrorist attacks. in that scenario, the republicans may look "incompetent" and be replaced by the democrats.

i however doubt that their strategy will work on the american voters on a massive scale. it could may even have the opposite effect, making bush more "necessary" rather than irrelevant. but then again, they wouldn't mind that, since as long as they get to kill innocent civilians, they're happy.
