For the same reason Crux [Southern Cross] was visible from Jerusalem at Jesus Christ's time and was best visible during the spring time (i.e. Good Friday and Easter). The evening after the crucifixion (most probable date April 3, 33 AD) Crux was just above Jerusalem's southern horizon.
