"The discussions indicated that celebrities are not necessarily preferred by poor voters and that the rich and famous do not necessarily have the edge. Neither do the educated. In fact, while many among the focus-group participants said they value educational qualifications, they were also suspicious about those with superior education."
it could suggest clear signs of growing maturity among the filipino electorate, especially in the lower economic classes. could this be a real sign of hope? i hope it is. i guess we'll see in 4 days.
of course this study, if supported and proven by the results of the upcoming vote with all certainty, would have significant implications on the way political strategists will plan and form their campaigns in the future.
likewise, politicians will have to rethink their overall perception of the filipino electorate.
but i have serious misgivings of the methodology the researchers employed. although theirs is not statistical in nature and aims rather to determine and analyze qualitative data, the study may not be wholly or generally representative of the electorate belonging to those groups, that is, the views reflected in the study may be held by only a minority of voters from the D & E class. such is the weakness of focus groups.
i hope i'm wrong though. for all its worth, this is exciting and refreshing news.
